the little witch

The Little Witch is a show for young audiences choreographed by Sophie Nüzel and Marie Forbes with an original soundscore written and performed live by Domenico Angarano.

Based on the story Die kleine Hexe by Preussler the piece takes the audience on a magical journey through the space it is happening in.

“The little witch is only 127.5 years old. That is not at all old for a witch. Expelled from the annual witch congregation as she can’t get her spells right, she is given a year to prove herself. And so the journey begins…”

The piece works with a main cast of 4 professional dancers and a community guest cast of up to 40 people between 5-75 years.

In 2013 and 2014 the piece toured successfully to The National Theatre Watch this Space, Hackney Children Theatre as well as The Place, London.

Being part of the community cast in Sophie’s project The Little Witch, was utterly satisfying. Full of experimentation, allowing the unfolding of individual choreographic ideas, embedded in set phrases to hold the piece together, which gave the project so much momentum. Well organized and brilliantly thought out as a piece of dance, to reach out to, and move, a varying audience of all ages, and meeting different public locations in the city every time afresh.
